Elementary School Cancels Halloween Costume Parade: It's 'Not Inclusive'

INJOA Massachusetts elementary school will now be celebrating “black and orange spirit day” as the annual Halloween costume parade was canceled by the principal.

In a message to the parents of students at Boyden Elementary School in Walpole, Massachusetts, according to WBZ in Boston, Principal Brendan Dearborn wrote:

[T]he costume parade is out of our ordinary routine and can be difficult for many students. Also, the parade is not inclusive of all the students and it is our goal each and every day to ensure all student's [sic] individual differences are respected.

Some locals who spoke to WBZ did not seem to like the decision.

“Put a costume on. Parade down the street. Let them have their little time,” a Walpole man said. “Why do you have to turn it into something political?”
